5 Benefits of an Organized Pantry
One of the most troublesome places we hear about is the kitchen pantry. With food constantly coming in and out, it’s understandable that it would be hard to keep it under control. However, here at Green Mountain Space, we believe the pantry can be one of the most fun places to organize *because* it’s constantly changing.
To get to the fun part, we believe that effective organizational systems are essential and can lead to these five daily benefits.
Save Time
A place for everything and everything in its place. With time feeling like a precious commodity, it’s easy to want to find ways to streamline your daily processes. For example, when your pantry is organized, and all items have a home, you cut out the time searching because you know exactly where to look. Not only that, but you save yourself the headache and time needed to head to the store when you unexpectedly realize you’re out of something.
Maximize Space
An organized pantry not only decreases clutter and makes things easier to find, but it also leads to more available space. With more space, you can better store kitchen accessories like Instant Pots and stand mixers, making cooking more manageable with these helpful tools more frequently.
More Cooking!
An efficient system in your pantry can and will dictate your culinary life. The more streamlined your food storage is, the more efficient and enjoyable cooking will be when you can see everything on hand quickly to make your grandmother’s lasagna on a wintery Sunday, or consider hosting friends over for a batch of chili.
Reduce Food Waste, and Save Money:
Ever heard the expression “Out of sight, out of mind?” Messy, cluttered pantries mean lots of food goes unseen and unused. When you keep an organized pantry, you’ll likely have less food waste, as you’ll better grasp what you already have on hand before it expires. That means more money in your pocket, less food in the landfills, and less shopping time.
A pro tip to keep your space up to date: use FIFO, or “First in, First out.” Move new items to the back of the line so that you remember to use the old items first. An extra tip? Keep a small whiteboard on a wall in the pantry, and as things get low or as you see items getting close to expiration, make a note to ensure they get used up and replaced before other ingredients.
Easy Access for the Whole Family!
Most families and households have a primary chef and grocery shopper. With an organized pantry, it becomes easier for those who cook less frequently to try their hand at making a meal. Others can navigate the space better independently, without asking for (as much) guidance.
